Sewing Machine Servicing in Cambridge
At Sew Knit Craft, we are pleased to offer in-house sewing machine servicing here in Cambridge.
We are one of the few local shops to offer sewing machine servicing and your machine will be looked after right here by our experienced service technician. We are happy to service almost any machine, with a particular focus on Janome, Bernina, and Pfaff, as well as many other brands.

Do I Need To Book In?
No booking is needed! Simply bring your machine into the shop and leave it with a member of the Sew Knit Craft team. When you arrive, we will take your details and note any specific issues you may have noticed with the machine.
How Much Does It Cost?
Machine service starts at £90 which covers all the previously mentioned services. The cost will only increase if your machine requires a replacement part. We will never replace anything on your machine without calling you to obtain your approval, to proceed with the repair. Bernina Series 4,5 & 7: Start from £110
What's Included?
Cleaning
Dust, lint, and debris are eliminated from different components, like the bobbin area, feed dogs, and tension mechanisms. This aids in issue prevention and extends the machine's lifespan.
Oiling
Essential moving parts are oiled with appropriate machine oil to reduce friction and ensure smooth operation.
Adjustment
Tension settings, stitch length, and other adjustments are made to ensure the machine sews accurately and evenly.
Inspection
The technician checks for wear and tear on components like the needle, presser foot, and belts. Any worn parts may be replaced.
Testing
The machine is tested with different fabrics and stitch types to ensure everything functions correctly.
Documentation
A service record may also be created, noting any repairs carried out and any recommendations for future maintenance.
How Often Should a Sewing Machine Be Serviced?
As a general guide, we recommend having your sewing machine serviced about once a year if it is used regularly. If you sew very frequently, use your machine heavily, or notice that it is not running as smoothly as usual, it may benefit from more regular servicing.
What do I Need To Bring?
Please bring:
- your machine
- the plug
- the foot pedal
If possible, we also recommend bringing the machine in its case or with its cover. If you do not have either of these, a bag or box is absolutely fine. If you do not have any cover at all, that is no problem.
How Long Does It Take?
We aim to have serviced machines ready for collection within 10 working days. If you need your machine back sooner, please let us know and we will always do our best to help.

We know parking in Cambridge can sometimes be a little tricky, especially when you are bringing in a sewing machine. We will always do our best to help you as quickly as possible when you arrive.
